Running Total: -5.09 pts

The month began slowly before a superb recovery saw the portfolio move into profit after 25 days, only for a tougher final week to leave us narrowly down at the finish.

Although ending -5.09 points isn’t the outcome we were hoping for after such a strong recovery, there are still plenty of positives to take from the month. The win portfolio finished only -3.22 points to advised prices while showing a healthy +6.23 points at Betfair SP, suggesting the selections continued to outperform the market.

Meanwhile, the each-way portfolio lost just 2.67 points despite several near misses that could easily have changed the overall picture.

Looking back over the month, there were a number of fine margins. VOLLERING and AMELIA EARHART both finished just one place outside the places, while LITTLETOWN LAD fell at the final flight when looking booked for at least a place. Racing will always have swings of fortune, and on another day those results could easily have turned a small monthly loss into a healthy profit.

In terms of the win bets, there were too many close calls to mention, but some of them are frustrating ones are in the final week which could’ve made a big difference.

Overall, I’m encouraged by how the new approach is developing. We’re finding far more winners, the BSP figures remain strong, and I firmly believe this style of betting gives us a much better long-term chance of producing consistent profits than chasing big-priced winners. On to August.
